The wet morning of snow flush and ice of Thursday, 18 January 2007, marked the opening of another Malaysian Halal Restaurant called Seri Malaysia. The restaurant is located at East Hasting and Nanaimo Street. It is approximately five (5) to eight (8) minutes drive from downtown. Its close proximity to the heart of the Vancouver city without doubt provides another avenues for Vancouverite food enthusiasts to enjoy the authentic Malay Malaysian Cuisine that appeared to be a little bit different from any other Malaysian restaurant in the city.
Owner of the restaurant, Mr. Jamal Abu Bakar said that the opening of this restaurant is driven by the few existence of halal restaurant in the city that served exotic and pure flavour of Malay Malaysian cuisine. He ensured that all dishes at his restaurant is prepared and served with his specialty and based on the cooking style of Malay community in Mersing, his birthplace in the Southern State of Johor, Malaysia. The menus ranging from Malay Malaysian Roti Canai (paratha) and, aromatic Coconut Milk Rice (Nasi Lemak) with Mersing Style Beef or Chicken Rendang to main dishes like Mersing Yellow Noodle, Beef and Chicken Curry ala Johor with various sumptuous appetizer like Deep Fried Banana with Ice Cream and etc. He really hopes that his customers will enjoy the taste of ‘Mersing’ authentic Malay Cuisine and delicacies.
