VISIT OF YB DATUK SERI DR. FONG CHAN ONN TO BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
The Minister of Human Resource, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Fong Chan Onn was on a working visit to Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia from 22 – 25 April 2007. He was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Tan Lay Hwa, Datuk Yau De Piyau (Chief Executive of Human Resource Development Berhad), Haji Md. Yunus Razzaly (Director General of Industrial Relation Department), Mr. Khalil Kadir (General Manager of Benefits Department, Social Security Organisation), Ms. Khamsiah Mohamad (Ministry of Human Resource) and Mr. Chew Chong Lin (Private Secretary to the Minister). The objectives of the working visit were to establish relations between governments for future endeavors, to exchange views and explore concepts in the present work field in British Columbia. It was also aimed in trying to learn, emulate and implement current sophisticated system undertaken by BC to further benefit Malaysia in the future.
2. During his stay in British Columbia, Hon. Minister met Hon. Olga Illich, Minister of Labour and Citizens’ Services, Hon. Murray Coell, Minister of Advance Education and Minister Responsible for Science and Technology. Prior meeting Hon. John Van Dongen, Minister of State for Intergovernmental Relations over the Luncheon, Hon. Minister was given a briefing by Ms. Gail Stephen, CEO of British Columbia Pension Corporation.
3. Hon. Minister departed Vancouver on 25 April 2007 for the next program in Ottawa.
