Birth/Marriage Certificate
REGISTRATION OF BIRTH (BORANG W)
A child born in Switzerland can be registered as a Malaysian citizen at the Consulate-General’s Office in Geneva with the following conditions: -
- The father/mother of the child is a Malaysian citizen.
- The registration is made within one (1) year from the date of birth.
- A Malaysian parent and the child must be present at the Consular Office and submit the originals and copies of the following documents: -
- Swiss International or Local Birth Certificate of child
- Father’s Birth Certificate
- Father’s Malaysian Identity Card
- Father’s Citizenship Certificate
- Father’s Legitimation Card or Permit
- Father’s Passport
- Mother’s Birth Certificate
- Mother’s Malaysian Identity Card
- Mother’s Citizenship Certificate
- Mother’s Legitimation Card or Permit
- Mother’s Passport
- Malaysian Marriage Certificate
- Two (2) passport size colour photographs of child (not from photo machine)
- Payment of CHF15.00 being registration fee (fees to be revised from time to time)
REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE
Non-Muslim Marriages
Non-Muslim Malaysian citizens who contract marriages outside Malaysia must register the marriage with this office within six (6) months of the date of marriage. For this purpose, both husband and wife must be present at the Consular Office and submit the originals and copies of the following: -
- Passport of husband and wife
- Birth Certificate of husband and wife
- Identity Card of husband and wife
- Legitimation Card or Permit of husband and wife
- International Marriage Certificate
- Two (2) passport size photographs in colour (not from the photo machine)
- Payment of CHF7.00 for registration fee (fees to be revised from time to time)
Note:
- Registration of marriage must be made six (6) months after date of marriage
- If registration is made after the period of 6 months, a penalty will be imposed.
- For the first year – RM100.00 (to be converted to CHF according to current exchange rate)
- For consequent year – RM50.00 (to be converted to CHF according to current exchange rate)
Please note that only non-muslims can register their marriages under the law reforms (Marriage & Divorce) Act 1976
Muslim Marriages
Muslim Malaysian marriages are subject to prior consent from the religious authorities in respective States in Malaysia. All Muslim marriages must be registered at the respective Religious Department in Malaysia.
