Ambassador Faiz hosted a welcome lunch for a group of 33 hungry Malaysians who had embarked on a historic journey across Latin America which took them across Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and finally Chile.

Ambassador Faiz also invited a group of Chileans from the 4X4 Club Traccio and Club Jeeperos de Chile and also a group of paragliders for the lunch. The Philippines, Vietnamese and Thai Ambassadors could not attend as they were out of town but the wife of the Vietnamese Ambassador was sporting enough to represent her husband. The Indonesian Ambassador who has not arrived in Chile was represented by their Charge d´Affaire. This reflected the ASEAN solidarity.

They are the first Malaysians in 4x4 convoy and bikes to traverse the South American continent as well as the longest distance in overland travel, covering some 22,400km.

The 61?day journey began on 11 October 2006 in Buenos Aires and ended in Buenos Aires on Dec 9 2006. The group is expected to fly to Malaysia on Dec 10 in time to celebrate New Year in Malaysia.
