2025 ASEAN-Oriented Standardization Cooperation Forum kicks off in Nanning

On 27 August 2025, the Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail participated in the inaugural ceremony of the 2025 ASEAN-Oriented Standardization Cooperation Forum, at Nanning Liyuan Resort. The event was graced by H.E. Wei Tao, Governor of Guangxi People’s Government and H.E. Bai Qingyuan, Deputy Minister of the State Administration of Market Regulation (SAMR).

Under the theme “Innovative Cooperation in AI Standardization, Empowers the Construction of China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future”, the event served as a platform for participants to explore new approaches to artificial intelligence (AI) standards development that could foster the integration of standardization, technology and industry.

Key milestones included the signing of a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs); launch of several cooperation initiatives; and establishment of China-ASEAN Standardization Cooperation and Exchange Center.

During the keynote speech session, Mr. Mohd Azrul Che Aziz, Senior Assistant Director of Standardization Division, Department of Standards Malaysia, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) shared his insights on the promise of AI and the critical role of standardization in ensuring the safe, trustworthy and stable development of AI.

During the event, the Consul General managed to engage with all the Malaysia’s representatives attending the event and exchanged views on the country’s pragmatic approach to AI governance and its initiatives for international alignment on standards for responsible AI development.
