China-ASEAN Countries Forum on Blue Economy Cooperation and Development convenes in Nanning

On 9 September 2025, the Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail participated in the opening ceremony of China-ASEAN Countries Forum on Blue Economy Cooperation and Development, at the Howard Johnson CAEXPO Plaza Nanning. 

Themed Innovation, Green Development and Smart Solutions: Shaping A New Blue Future for China and ASEAN”, the event featured keynote address by H.E. Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Head of the State Oceanic Administration, China and H.E. Hu Fan, Vice Governor of Guangxi Government.

The event managed to attract over 500 officials, experts and scholars including 6 from Malaysia where discussions were focused on innovation-driven growth, and harmonious coexistence with the ocean to shape a new pattern for sustainable blue economy development.

Proposed cooperation areas include eco-aquaculture, deep-sea farming, blue carbon trading, expanding shipping routes, developing premium marine tourism. Collaboration in marine biomedicine, offshore wind power, and seawater desalination was also emphasized.

During the sideline China-ASEAN Symposium on Marine Pharmaceuticals and Biological Products, Ms. Kar Hoe Loh, Senior Research Fellow from Malaya University gave a presentation on Marine Biodiversity as a Foundation for a Sustainable Blue Economy: Insights from Malaysia’s Coastal Waters.
