Consul General Attends the Opening Ceremony of a Robotics Competition in Laibin City

On 18 May 2024, Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail attended the opening ceremony of the 21st Guangxi Adolescent Robotics Competition & Cross-regional Robotics Invitational Tournament for Teenagers from ASEAN Member Countries, at Guangxi Science and Technology Normal University in Laibin City, Guangxi.

 

 

It is an innovation competition program for students from grade 1 to 12. Seven students from Malaysia have been selected from different schools to join the event following a local competition. The contestants were challenged to design, build, and program robots. Apart from Malaysia, the event has also attracted the participation of around 2000 contestants from 6 provinces/regions of China and ASEAN member countries including Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. 

 

 

During the interview session with Guangxi TV Station, the Consul General opined that the event offers students great opportunity to enhance their problem solving skills and develop their creative and critical thinking. When sharing Malaysia’s practice to encourage students’ involvement into science and technology fields, the Consul General highlighted Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 which emphasizes the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education.

Also in attendance were Mr. Huang Junhua, Deputy Chairman of CPPCC Guangxi Committee, Mr. Liao Heming, Mayor of Laibin Municipal Government, senior officials of Guangxi Science and Technology Normal University and Guangxi Association for Science and Technology.
