On 20 November 2025, the Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail was interviewed by the People’s Daily Online at the Chancery. The interview was in conjunction with the 2026 Guangxi New Silk Road New Year E-commerce Festival & Shopping in China • Guangxi Station that is scheduled to be hosted by the Guangxi People’s Government on 19 December 2025 in Nanning, Guangxi.
On the E-commerce Festival, the Consul General highlighted that it offers an ideal platform to introduce new Malaysian products to the Chinese market. Given the fact that e-commerce is a cornerstone of the digital economy, he called on both sides to enhance engagements in infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and human capital to support and ensure the success of the partnership in this sector.
The Consul General also highlighted Guangxi's role as a China-ASEAN trade hub, bolstered by its strategic land-sea connectivity to ASEAN and key projects such as the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the Pinglu Canal. He then stressed the need to enhance port capabilities at the Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port that would provide inland and central-southern China with more efficient access to ASEAN markets.
The Consul General specially commended the pivotal role of the "Two Countries, Twin Parks" Initiative and CAEXPO in strengthening Malaysia-Guangxi relations, which have boosted cross-border investment and provided the platform for trade promotion, policy dialogue, and business networking that directly benefits China-Malaysia economic cooperation.
He underscored the significance of promoting long-term Malaysia-China cooperation that would lead to better growth, stable relationships, and ensures policy predictability. He stressed that this stability reduces risks like tariff shifts, lowers inventory costs, and improves delivery reliability, which is the key for major investments and supply chain planning between both countries.
