On 29 May 2025, the Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail was interviewed by the People’s Daily Online at the Chancery. The interview focused on promoting the trade of premium agro-produce especially fruit between Malaysia and China.
During the interview, the Consul General highlighted that Malaysian fast-moving consumer goods and agricultural produce such as durian, bird nest and white coffee, are getting greater visibility and market penetration in China, attributed by Malaysia’s active participation in the China-ASEAN Expo since 2004.
He also shared the trade performance of agro-food and agricultural products between Malaysia and China in last year, with durian accounting over 90% of the country’s total fruit trade with China. He took the opportunity to promote the unique features of Malaysia’s durian and different ways of enjoying the fruit. He further highlighted that apart from durian and jack fruit, Malaysia’s fresh coconut is expected to enter China’s market soon following the visit of President Xi to Malaysia in April.
He stressed that Malaysia will continue working to ensure local agricultural produce will be able to secure a place in the international market. Malaysia is also looking at enhancing technological cooperation with China in digital farming, that would lead towards addressing agricultural challenges such as food security and promotes sustainable practices in modern farming.
