On 21 November 2025, the Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail officiated the DSR Durian Fest 2025 at Parkson Nanning. The event, running from 20 to 30 November, was co-hosted by the Consulate General of Malaysia in Nanning and Malaysia’s DSR Taiko Berhad, in a bid to strengthen cross-border agro-food trade and elevate the profile of Malaysia's premium durian industry.
The event showcased premium varieties like the fresh Musang King and an array of durian-based products. Attendees enjoyed immersive experiences, including creative delicacies and interactive activities.

During his remarks, the Consul General commended DSR’s commitment and continuous efforts in promoting their durian and durian-based products into the vast Chinese market.
He highlighted that China remains the main destination for durian trading, accounting for over 90 per cent of durian imports in the Asia-Pacific region. He stressed that the demand for Malaysian durians is increasing, underpinned by the joint efforts of the governments from both sides. The durian trade between the two countries was further enhanced following the signing of the new protocol by both sides in June 2024 that allows Malaysia to export fresh durian into China.

According to Dato’ Ng Lian Poh, CEO of DSR Taiko Berhad, Nanning was selected as the launch city for DSR's expansion across China, following a successful showcase at the 22nd CAEXPO. DSR planned to extend similar promotional events to other major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, to further increase market reach and consumer awareness of authentic Malaysian durians.

During the event, the Consul General was interviewed by the Guangxi Radio and Television. He highlighted that durian is regarded as the King of All Fruits in Malaysia, it is a cultural icon and a source of national pride. He expressed hopes to leverage the event to deepen agricultural cooperation with Guangxi and foster new partnerships in more sectors.

Also in attendance were Consuls General from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and senior officials from Guangxi Department of Commerce, Guangxi Foreign Affairs Offices, CAEXPO Secretariat and other local government agencies.
