The 2021 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) kicked off on 24 September in Gui'an New Area, southwest China's Guizhou Province. Hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the provincial government, the event focused on sustainable development cooperation in education.
A series of activities covering higher education, vocational education, education cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, school-enterprise cooperation, integration of industry and education, and youth exchanges were held through the year.
CAECW has become an important platform for educational and cultural exchanges between China and the ASEAN Member States, said Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Higher Education Malaysia during her video speech at the opening ceremony.
As of June 2021, there are over 20,000 registered Chinese students studying in the public and private higher education institutions in Malaysia, and the number of international students from Asia is gradually increasing as Malaysia becomes a preferred destination for higher education in the region, she said.
