On 16 January 2025, the Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail participated in the Global Mayors Dialogue, at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Mayors, representatives and experts from China and ASEAN countries gathered at the dialogue to share their insights on urban openness and economic cooperation. The participants also conducted discussions and exchanges on topics including cultural interactions and integration, and experiences in urban governance.
Two delegations from Malaysia participated in the event. The first delegation from Kedah State was led by Mr Wong Chia Zhen, executive councillor in Kedah State. The second delegation was from Sabah State led by Dato’ Sri Dr. Haji Sabin bin Samitah, JP, mayor of Kota Kinabalu City.

The Nanning Initiative, which aims to deepen cooperation and exchanges between China and the ASEAN countries, was issued at the event.
