On the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the Merdeka Day celebration, a National Day Reception was held at the Rumah Malaysia on Monday, 29 September 2014.
H.E. Ambassador Tan Sri Ismail Omar and his spouse, Puan Sri Suriati Mohd Sobri were on hand to receive 200 guests, among whom were, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, defence attachés of various embassies, senior officials of the Quai D’Orsay, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs; representatives of international and regional organizations as well as captains of French business and industry.
At the event, the French and foreign guests were introduced to the fiery Malaysian ‘Nasi Lemak’ accompanied by the ‘sambal tumis’ and ‘rendang’. There were also four food ‘stalls’ demonstrating and serving a selection of Malaysian favourites such as satay, roti canai, kueh teow and t teh tarik much to the surprise and delight of the guests.
In line with the Embassy’s effort to promote Malaysia among the French, brochures and promotional materials on tourism in Malaysia were also on display and given away as door gifts to guests.
