ASEAN FILM FESTIVAL 2017 IN PARIS, 22-25 SEPTEMBER 2017

 Malaysia participated in the ASEAN Film Festival 2017 at Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet, 6 place d’Iéna, Paris from 22-25 September 2017. The ASEAN-UNESCO Committee (AUC) and ASEAN Committee Paris (ACP) jointly organized this event in conjunction with the 50th Celebration of ASEAN.

 

The opening ceremony was held on 22 September 2017, with the opening remarks from the Chairperson of AUC, H.E Mr. Andrew Toh; Deputy Head of Musée Guimet, Mr Therry Jopeck; Chairperson of ACP, H.E Datin Malai Hajah Halimah Malai Haji Yusoff and Ambassador of Thailand to France, H.E Mr Sihasak Phuangketkeow.

 

The Thailand’s film ‘Song of Rice’ made the first debut during the opening event. After the screening, guests were able to sample foods from all ten ASEAN Member States (AMS).

 

The film festival also featured films originated from the rest of the AMS as follows; 1957: Hati Malaya (Malaysia), Sabaidee Luang Prabang (Laos), Saving Sally (Philippines), Kayan Ahla (Myanmar), Cahaya Dari Timur (Indonesia), 7 Letters (Singapore), Fleurs Jaunes sur l’Herbe Verte (Vietnam), Yasmine (Brunei Darussalam) and L’Image Manquante (Cambodia).

 

All in all, the festival has successfully reached its main objective to cultivate a better understanding on the cultures and values of ASEAN communities.
