Bon Ton Resort Langkawi and Shangri-La Hotel Paris bag Villegiature Award in Paris

Paris, 14 November 2011 - Langkawi Bon Ton Resort and Malaysian Shangri-La hotel in Paris have been awarded the French prestigious Villegiature Awards 2011. The 8th annual Prix Villégiature was held in the august setting of the Hilton Arc de Triomphe Hotel, in Paris on Monday, 14 November 2011.

 

The Villegiature Awards were created in 2003 by Sophie and Rémy Le Liepvre, as a way of recognizing European Hotels for excellence in specific categories (13 in total) such as in best architecture, best interior design, best service, best bar and best hotel restaurant in Europe. The awards came from a voting jury comprising 21 major journalists from the world’s well-recognized media. It also reward the “best” of the best hotels (grand prix) in Europe and Africa, as well as in the category of islands all over the world.

 

Bon Ton Resort Langkawi bagged the most prominent international Villegiature award, in the grand prix category of the “Best Island Hotel 2011”. The Ambassador of Malaysia to France, His Excellency Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal, who attended the prize-giving ceremony accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Rositah Mohd Mawi, represented Malaysia for the award.  The other nominees in the “Best Island hotel” category were Luna 2 Bali; Beau Rivage Resort Mauritius; Ratua private island of Vanuatu as well as Denis and Fregate islands in Seychelles.

 

The Parisian Shangri-La hotel won in the category of best hotel interior design in Europe. Other than the said award, the hotel was also nominated for three (3) other categories i.e. best hotel architecture, best hotel service and best hotel bathroom in Europe.

 

By winning the award, the two hotels and resorts have indeed made their mark and prestige internationally, thus promoting Malaysia’s business potential in the highly competitive European market.
