On 26 March 2018, the French Ministry of Transport invited various stakeholders e.g. industry, investors, NGOs, regional organisations, members of the academia, and the diplomatic corps to the Conference on the Decarbonisation of Maritime Transport.The Conference was organized within the scope of the follow-up on the commitments made during the One Planet Summit, on 12 December 2018.
Élisabeth Borne, Minister in charge of Transport, who delivered the introductory remarks would also later close the Conference. David Paul, Minister-in-Assistance to the President and Environment Minister of the Republic of the Marshall Islands; Marek Gróbarczyk, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation of Poland; and Jean-Marc Roué, President of Armateurs (Association of ship owners) then delivered interventions after Mme. Borne. The common thread in the interventions made was the emphasis on the need for maritime transportation to be more environmentally friendly in order for climate goals to be met.
After the interventions, there were two panel sessions that covered commitments on decarbonising maritime transport and the possibility of making zero carbon shipping a reality.
