On 29 January 2020, H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Dr. Azfar Mohamad Mustafar received a courtesy call from the OECD Development Centre, who was represented by Mr. Kensuke Tanaka, Head of Asia Desk and Ms. Prasiwi Ibrahin, Deputy Head of Asia Desk.

The purpose of the meeting was to inform and brief Malaysia about the Economic Outlook Reports for Southeast Asia, China and India. Noting Malaysia’s active involvement for many years, Mr. Tanaka expressed his hope to maintain the same level of buoyancy with Malaysia. Echoing the same hope, H.E also expressed his admiration for the works done by the OECD different arms, noting how the standards set by the organisation has set the tone for the development across the globe. He also noted how reports published by the OECD are instrumental in charting Malaysia’s Shared Prosperity Goals.

The Outlook Report was initially discussed by an informal reflection group on Southeast Asia in 2008 as follow-up to the Meeting of the OECD Council at Ministerial Level (MCM) in 2008 and was accepted by ministers/senior officials of ASEAN at the 2nd OECD-Southeast Asea Regional Forum in Bangkok, Thailand in 2009.
