Two Malaysian cookbooks bag the Gourmand Award - Best in the World during the World Cuisines Week and Paris Cookbook Fair held at the Réfectoire des Cordeliers in the Latin Quarter, home to the Sorbonne University, in Paris on 29 November 2021.
The cookbook entitled “Malaysia Culinary Heritage” by Kalsom Taib and Hamidah Abdul Hamid won in the Best Food Heritage Book 2021 category. The book is a compilation of 230 traditional Malaysian recipes, all deemed national heritage dishes. While the other cookbook is “Kulit Manis: a taste of Terengganu’s heritage” by Rosita Abdullah had also won the Best Regional Cookbook. The book is an illustration of Terengganu’s historical, cultural and culinary heritage of 88 traditional recipes inherited through generations. Mr. Abdullah Maamor Ibrahim, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Malaysia, attended the event to receive the prestigious awards on behalf of the Malaysian authors.
The Gourmand Awards, founded in 1995 by Édouard Cointreau, reward annually the very best cookery and wine books, printed or digital, as well as food television. The event was held in conjunction with the ongoing World Cuisine Week and Paris Cookbook Fair, involving chefs and kitchen professionals as well as publishers from 137 countries in Paris from 29 November to 3 December 2021.
