Malaysia was awarded the ‘Top Ranking Emerging Country of 2010’ by the La Revue Magazine at an award ceremony held last night. Malaysia was represented by Ms. Astanah Abdul Aziz, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Malaysia in Paris, who received the award on behalf of the Government. The ceremony, which was held at an exclusive venue in Paris, was attended by 200 guests comprising VIPs, diplomats, businessmen and journalists. The event was graced by H.E. Mr. Frederic Mitterand, Minister of Culture of France.
H.E. Mr. Fernando Schmidt, Vice-Minister of External Relations of Chile, had also attended the ceremony to receive the award on behalf of Chile, which had been ranked joint-winner of the award.
The La Revue magazine, a popular monthly publication in France as well as North Africa focusing on economic issues, conducted the rankings among a group of 33 countries based on GDP as well as a set of social and other indicators, such the education and health sectors, higher education and research, infrastructure networks and in the area of sustainable development.
