Malaysia’s second submarine KD TUN RAZAK left Toulon, France on its maiden journey to Malaysia at 10am (local time) on 30 April 2010.
The submarine was waved off by Cik Astanah Abdul Aziz, Charge d'Affaires, Embassy of Malaysia in France accompanied by Captain Ismail bin Abdullah RMN, Defence Attaché and officials from the Malaysia’s submarine project team as well as French senior navy officials led by Admiral Jean-Francois Baud (ALFOST), DCNS and NAVANTIA staff. The submarine is expected to arrive Malaysian waters in early July 2010.
The submarine consisting of 32 crew members commandered by Commander Baharuddin bin Wan Md Nor RMN is expected to stop at Lumut and Kuantan for a few days before continuing the journey to Sepanggar naval base in Sabah. En route to Malaysia, the submarine will transit at major ports such as Jeddah, Salallah and Cochin.
The submarine project started when Malaysia signed a deal to purchase two submarines in 2002. The first submarine KD TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN was delivered last year and safely arrived Sepanggar, Sabah on 17 September 2009.
