On 25 May 2018, Mr. Kensuke Tanaka, Head of Asia Desk, OECD Development Centre made a call on Mr. Mohamad Razdan Jamil, chargé d'affaires. Mr. Ong Tze Shen, First Secretary; and Mme. Prasiwi Ibrahim from the OECD were also present during the meeting. The discussion started with welcoming remarks and pleasantries by both parties. Mr. Tanaka took the opportunity to thank Mission for actively engaging with the OECD.
Both sides found the meeting beneficial. During the meeting there was reflection on the previous publications of the Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia, China and India, assessment on the current situation in Malaysia, and future engagements with the OECD.
The interest of the OECD in Southeast Asia is evident as the OECD had participated in the working lunch with ASEAN Heads of Mission hosted by the Ambassador of Thailand on 2 May 2018 and provided a debriefing session on the First Ministerial Conference of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme on 3 May 2018. Earlier in the year, the First Outlook Consultation Group (OCG) Meeting for the Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia, China and India 2019; and the Inter-Sessional Steering Group Meeting of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) was held at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Headquarters on 12 February 2018 and 10 January 2018 respectively.
