On 5 March 2020, H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Dr. Azfar Mohamad Mustafar made a short detour during the ASEAN Ambassadors’ visit to Marseille to meet our Honorary Consul to Marseille, Mr. Jean-Pierre de Bono.
Honorary Consuls are prominent individuals who support Malaysia’s Missions abroad especially in cities which are far from the capital. Honorary Consuls have similar functions to that of a full Consul, but their roles are usually executed part-time, unpaid and less formal. Generally, the Honorary Consuls are to perform certain representational, consular and promotional functions at their designated consular areas such as representing Malaysia at local functions; promote economic, political and cultural ties and assist Malaysians who require intermediary services.
During the visit, H.E. Ambassador was briefed about the various trade and social collaboration opportunities available in Marseille and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA). H.E. Ambassador noted that Marseille’s and PACA’s direct engagement with Malaysia could be further enhanced as one of the dimensions in Malaysia-France relations.
