Late in the morning Saturday, a commemorative ceremony at the stele of Henry Talalla, on the road named after him and linking Airan to Moult, was organized. The plane of Henry Talalla, a Malaysian Typhoon pilot, was taken down at this location, on 25 July 1945.
Members of his family, pilots of the Royal Air Force Coningsby, in Lincolnshire, eastern England, were present alongside elected officials of Airan. Airan’s brass band played the regulatory calls for this ceremony, and a sound system played the national anthems.
A Malaysian television crew was also present. Patrice Martin, the mayor, reminded that the pilot was only 24 when his plane was taken down. “He was therefore twenty when the war began. In every war, the youth pays a heavy price”.
Following the ceremony, a reception took place at the town hall.
