On 12 December 2017, two years since the historic Paris Agreement, the One Planet Summit kicked off at La Seine Musicale with the aim of bringing together actors of public and private finance. The goal was to explore ways of innovating, supporting and accelerating our common fight against climate change.
Mission attended the One Planet Summit with the Malaysian delegation from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Leading the Malaysian delegation was YB Dato Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.
In recognition of the urgent need to act, the summit reaffirmed global solidarity on the key issue of climate change. The One Planet Summit had focused on finance as it is the crux of climate change issues with the development of green finance being one of the pillars of COP21. In order to reach the ambitious goals set out in the Paris Agreement, appropriate financial flows would be needed as it is the basis of all action which includes the implementation of concrete projects needed for the global community to invest in the future e.g. low carbon investments and change perilous habits. The One Planet Summit resulted in a non-binding short declaration comprising of 12 international commitments on climate financing.
