PM: Choose The Brighter Path
Prime Minister Najib Razak today announced the dissolution of the lower house of parliament, paving the way for Malaysia’s 13th General Election. The Prime Minister made the announcement after asking the King, His Majesty Sultan Abdul Halim, for consent at the National Palace this morning. The decision to dissolve parliament comes on Prime Minister Najib Razak’s fourth anniversary in office.
Speaking earlier this morning, the Prime Minister said that under his leadership, the
Government had “begun to build a better nation, with a stronger economy and a reformed government”. He said that “while other countries have stumbled, Malaysia has leapt ahead. The economy has gone from strength to strength and freedoms have been expanded”. He added that he hoped Malaysians would “choose the brighter path and vote for a stronger, more prosperous nation”.
Speaking earlier this morning, Prime Minister Najib Razak added:
“I believe our record speaks for itself. Over the past four years, we have begun to build a better nation, with a stronger economy and a reformed government. We have come such a long way, but the task is not yet complete.
“Our national transformation is still a story half told. If we do not keep up the pace of
reform, we risk losing out. But with a strong mandate, we can continue. So today, I ask you to let me finish the job: to vote for progress, not against it.”
The Prime Minister also underscored his confidence in the strength of Malaysia’s electoral system. He said that those who “cast doubt over the electoral system” did so “for their own narrow political interests” and that measures introduced by the Elections Commission, including indelible ink, postal voting and improving the electoral roll, would ensure that this election would be the fairest yet.
