Seven students and lecturers led by Puan Hamsiah Abdullah Masni from Institute of Teacher Education Tun Abdul Razak Campus, Kota Samarahan, Sarawak were in Paris from 18 - 24 September 2016 on an educational trip to promote the ethnic music of Sarawak and Sabah.
During the cultural promotion tour, Tourism Malaysia organized a musical cocktail evening with the group at a local French brasserie in the 1st arrondissement of Paris on 21 September 2016. This outreach programme was attended by HE Dato’ Ibrahim Abdullah, Ambassador of Malaysia to France.
Earlier on 20 September 2016, PERWAKILAN Paris hosted a tea reception, attended by invited guests comprising wives of Ambassadors and local French guests. The group would also later be involved in a performance at ASIA Voyage’s main travel retail outlet located at Rue Dante, in the 5th arrondissement of Paris.
In their performances, the group played guitar music of the sape, somponton, bamboo marimba, percussion and accordion and performed the Orang Ulu and Sumazau dances.
Members of the group comprised of Puan Hamsiah Abdullah Masni, Puan Adibah Ismail, Encik Abdul Latiff Poli, Encik Brandon Daby, Cik Sharon Usun, Cik Nur Syahirah Naruddin, and Encik Ronail Julius Gidong.
