On 30 March 2018, the ASEAN Ambassadors in Paris including H.E. Datuk Ibrahim Abdullah, Ambassador of Malaysia, visited the Rungis International Market. Mme. Paulina CARMONA from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs joined the Ambassadors during the visit.
While at the Rungis International Market, the Ambassadors were able to learn more about the said market through the briefing provided by SEMARIS – the market’s management company. SEMARIS is responsible for the operation of the Rungis site, selling property there, and ensuring its development and reputation. The Rungis International Market is the World’s biggest fresh produce market that trades an exceptional variety of food products, the majority of which is fresh produce. Mutual interest was expressed by SEMARIS and the ASEAN Member States (AMS) on exploring the possibility of establishing linkages. The Philippines is the first AMS that SEMARIS has a presence in.
During the tour of the market, the Ambassadors visited the fish, meat, gastronomy, dairy, and fruits and vegetables pavilion. The visit concluded with a breakfast for the Ambassadors at the l’Etoile restaurant which is located on the Rungis premises.
