YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department visited the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) at 33 avenue du President Wilson in Paris on 27 January 2017. Before the meeting, YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman had the opportunity to visit the ICC Hearing Centre at 10 avenue Raymond Poincaré, Paris. The meeting was followed by a working lunch.
During the meeting, Alexis Mourre, President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration emphasized their important lines of policy aimed at improving efficiency, cost effectiveness, transparency, and time of arbitration. Through their activities, the ICC aspires to nurture business environments that are more open, fluid, transparent, competitive, and adherent to free market principles. 2016 had been a sterling year for the ICC as over a thousand cases were handled by their outfit. Mr. Mourre also had a chance to talk about the rich history of the ICC and explained that its headquarters is in Paris, France as their first chairman was 20th century French Minister of Finance Etienne Clémentel. Tapping into her experience as a former Minister of Tourism, YB Dato’ Sri promoted Malaysia as a tourist destination and provided assurance that Malaysia has premier and exclusive yacht clubs as well as world class diving facilities.
The ICC looks forward to developing and strengthening linkages with Malaysia which is recognized as an important jurisdiction of great value. This meeting provided both sides the opportunity to identify projects and possible areas of cooperation between the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration and ICC as well as arrangements for a reciprocal visit.
