MINISTER OF WOMEN, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
IN PARIS FOR THREE-DAY VISIT
The Honourable Dato? Sri Shahrizat binti Abdul Jalil arrived in Paris on Sunday 15 June 2007 to attend the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Council (ICG) of the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) programme at UNESCO and hold bilateral talks with her French counterpart.
2. On Monday 16 July 2007, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister and delegation participated in the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Council (ICG) of the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) programme at UNESCO. The meeting was attended by representatives of the ICG?s 35 Member States. The 8th session marked a new stage in the reshaping of the MOST programme.
3. The session opened with a round table of the Ministers of Social Development from several regions of the world. Representatives of the 35 Member States of the ICG reported on the work accomplished over the past two years to those who are on the front line for implementing this programme. Together they drafted recommendations on the follow-up to be given to this programme. These recommendations will then be submitted to all UNESCO Member States for consideration at the Organisation?s General Conference, in October 2007.
4. Following the round table, the Honourable Minister hosted a reception for the participants and the UNESCO permanent representatives as part of the activities to obtain the support of the Member States to Malaysia?s candidacy for the Executive Board.
5. The next day, the Honourable Minister Dato? Sri Shahrizat binti Abdul Jalil will meet Mrs. Valerie Letard, the French Secretary of State for Solidarity, who handles family and gender issues. Following the meeting with her French counterpart, the Honourable Minister will meet officials of the French National Federation for Solidarity among Women, which is a network of French women NGOs providing help and support to women victims of domestic violence.
6. The Honourable Minister departs from Paris on Wednesday 18 July 2007.
