Over 3,000 people, Malaysians and locals, attended the annual Merdeka Carnival, organized by the Malaysian Community and the High Commission of Malaysia in conjunction with Malaysia's 51st Independence Day. The event was held at the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre, Brickendonbury on 30 August.
The Carnival commenced with the flag raising ceremony and the singing of Negara ku.
Attractions included Malaysian food, cultural dances, art and crafts and exhibitions of products and services. Twenty six stalls provided a variety of Malaysian food and delicacies, including satay. The cultural dances included different ethnic dances, martial arts ? silat and other events, which showcased the many aspects of Malaysian life and traditions. Visitors also participated in games and competitions and a raffle to win attractive prizes, including return tickets to Malaysia. The on-going event for children was the telematches.
Golf, bowling, badminton and football were held prior to the carnival.
For the first time, the High Commission of Malaysia had an Information Booth at the Merdeka Carnival to share and disseminate information about the workings of the High Commission particularly on Immigration and Consular matters.
