‘Pahang and the Sea Workshop’, co-organised by Muzium Pahang and St Anthony’s College, Oxford, took place on 13–14 November and commenced with an opening lecture by Her Majesty Queen Azizah of Pahang. Titled ‘Pahang: The Forgotten Malay-Islamic Constitutional and Maritime Legacy’, Her Majesty highlighted Pahang as a centre of civilisational strength and emphasised its enduring influence in shaping regional history.
The workshop examined Pahang’s deep maritime heritage and its significant role within the maritime Silk Road, offering a compelling exploration of the region’s historical contribution to global connections. Participants engaged with leading scholars and researchers, gaining deeper insight into the history of the Malay world and its seafaring traditions. H.E. Dato’ Zakri Jaafar attended the programme in support of the initiative.
