On 15 January 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia to the Holy See, in collaboration with MATRADE Milan, hosted and initiated a high-level meeting connecting the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) and the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIIFC) to explore collaboration in Islamic banking.
The discussion served as an exploratory platform to exchange perspectives, identify common interests, and assess how Malaysia’s well-established Islamic finance ecosystem could support Malta’s emerging initiatives, particularly in Sukuk development.
Both sides expressed optimism about structured, sustainable cooperation, leveraging Malaysia’s global Islamic finance expertise and Malta’s strong regulatory framework, with the Embassy encouraging concrete follow-up actions.
