Malaysia attended the First Meeting of the Group of the East Asia Summit Ambassadors (1/2026 EAS) in Jakarta today at the ASEAN Secretariat. This is the first EAS Group Meeting in 2026 under the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship.
The EAS participating countries reviewed the implementation of the EAS Plan of Action 2024-2027 and expressed their commitment to further strengthening the EAS mechanism.
Malaysia regards the EAS as a strategic and indispensable platform within the regional architecture. The strength of the EAS lies in its ability to convene a diverse group of countries from across the Indo-Pacific, providing a space where dialogue can take place openly and respectfully, regardless of differing political systems, priorities, or strategic outlooks.
