The Consul General hosted the 54th National Day Reception on 17 September 2011 at the Sheraton Park Hotel and Towers, Chennai. The reception was held in conjunction with the 54th Malaysian National Day and Hari Malaysia which falls on 16 September 2011. The total invitees invited for the function was 180 including members of the Diplomatic Corps, Senior Government Officials, Prominent figures, entrepreneurs as well as Malaysian residing in Chennai. Selected Malaysian students from each university in Chennai were also invited to attend the function.
The programme began with the recital of Doa, video presentation on Malaysia, welcoming address by the Consul General and followed by the national anthem of India and Malaysia. Since the function along with the Hari Raya festivity, the Consulate General has prepared special menu including Lemang, Roti Jala, Mee Goreng and nasi empet with peanut gravy. Specialities for dessert mainly reflected Malaysian biscuits and sweets including kuih raya and dodol.
