The 55th National Day celebration of Malaysia was held in Chennai hosted by the Consul General, Consulate General of Malaysia on Friday, 31 August, 2012 at the Accord Metropolitan hotel from 7.30 – 9.30 p.m.
This year more than 200 guests attended the function and amongst the main invitees were senior government officials, military personnel, social activists, members of think tank group, captains of industries, NGO’s, friends of Malaysia as well as Malaysian community residing in Chennai.
Since, the National day was held in the month of Shawal this year (muslim calendar) varieties of food reflecting the Malaysian festival was served to the invitees. Among selected popular traditional food were Ketupat, Lemang, Dodol, Sate, Chicken Rendang, Fried Kuey Teow, Chicken rice, Malaysian sweets, varieties of cakes and South Indian dishes.
During the Welcoming Remarks, the Consul General emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries, Malaysia and India. The Consul General also highlighted the significance of bilateral relations between the State of Tamil Nadu and Malaysia. The Consul General further remarked that the bilateral trade between the two countries has been growing tremendously and there is greater potential for the two countries to enhance and develop co-operation in many areas for the mutual benefit of both countries.
