Consul General visited The Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Meenakshi University, Chennai

The Consul General in Chennai paid a visit to the Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Chennai accompanied by Mr. Khairuddin Abdullah, Consul (Education) on 28 April 2009. During the visit, the Consul General was received by Dr. T. Gunasagaram, Vice Chancellor, Dr. P Jayakumar, Dental Surgeon and Principal,  and  Dr. N Ambalavannan, Vice Principal & Professor, Meenakshi University.

2.         The visit was part of the program of the Consul General to visit all Universities and Colleges in the South India Region, where the Malaysian students study.  The Consul General previously had visited the Vinayaka Mission University, Salem (about 350 kms from Chennai), Kasturba University Mangalore and Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka.  There are about 11 Malaysian students studying at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College.  All of them are private students.  

3.         During the meeting between the Consul General and Vice Chancellor, both sides agreed to explore any possibilities of co-operation in the field of education particularly between the dental colleges in Malaysia and India.  The Consul General also encouraged the Management of the Meenakshi Ammal Dental College to look into the possibilities to establish twining program in the field of dental and medicine with private educational institutions in Malaysia.   So far  the University has not  established any contact with the dental or medical colleges in Malaysia.

4.         The Vice Chancellor briefed the Consul General about the background and progress of the  Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and toured the campus.  The Consul General was impressed with the medical equipment facilities  offered for the students and was informed by the management that the Lab and clinical facilities  at the college was amongst the best in India.   

5.         The Vice Chancellor hosted a lunch in honour of the Consul General which was attended by  Dental College Academic Staff and Malaysian students studying at the college.
