| INTERNATIONAL REGATTA COMPETITION CG attended the Closing Ceremony of the India International Regatta 2013 and the Raymond Fashion Show on 6th October 2013 at Taj Vivanta, Chennai. The Guest of Honour for the ceremony was Lt. Gen. RM. Mittal, SM Commandant CME and The Chief Guest was Mr. Hemant Kumar Sinha, IAS – Principal Secretary / Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu. 2. The Fifth Edition of the Raymond India International Regatta Competition was inaugurated in Chennai by the Honourable Union Cabinet Minister for Shipping Mr. GK Vasan on 30 September 2013 and the event concluded on 6th October 2013. This regatta is the only International Youth Sailing Regatta of India and is hosted by Chennai Sailing Academy (CSA) under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA). The Raymond India International Regatta is supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Chennai Port Trust and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, amongst others. 3. The event had 105 participants from 9 countries and featured three of the most popular youth classes of boats, the Optimist, 29er and Laser 4.7. Malaysia had the biggest foreign contingent with 9 of our sailors participating in the Optimist, one in the Laser 4.7 and two for the team racing. In total there were twenty four (24) sailors were from Ireland, Seychelles, Malaysia, New Zealand, Britain, The USA, Netherlands and Slovenia, and a total of 23 girls participated in the event. 4. In the Optimist category, Malaysia won most of the top positions with Muhamad Uzair bin Yusof taking the championship with his compatriot Naquib Eiman in 2nd position. Among the girls, Malaysia’s Natasha Nabila bt Sawal and Nor Nabila Natasha bt Naser won the Gold and Bronze respectively. In the team race the Malaysian 2 team won Silver and Malaysia 1 team won the Bronze. 5. The Malaysian team composition as follows:-
6. The Optimist is the most popular international class for the junior sailors while the 29er is a stepping stone for the Olympic classes 49er, 49FX and 470.
