Malaysia Invites Entrepreneurs

Small and medium scale industries were thriving in Malaysia and Indian entrepreneurs in this sector could greatly benefit by starting their operations there, said Ahmad Fajarazam bin Abdul Jalil, Consul General of Malaysia for South India.
Speaking to the media during an interaction with representatives of trade bodies in Madurai on Saturday, Mr. Fajarazam said that entrepreneurs could get access to a wider market by operating from Malaysia. “Malaysia is part of trade agreements like the ASEAN Free Trade Area agreement and Trans-Pacific Partnership. By operating from Malaysia, businesses can get easy access to markets in countries covered by these agreements, which may not be possible from India,” he said.
He added that the country also provided attractive financing options, low taxation and high-end infrastructure which would make the cost of production for companies cheaper.
Mr. Fajarazam also attributed the strong cultural ties between the countries and better connectivity through flights as factors facilitating trade between the two countries.
“Malaysia has also eased visa regulations. Since April 2016, the country has single-entry e-visas with 30-day validity period for Indians, which can be obtained online within 24 hours,” he said. Pointing out that sectors such as information technology, textiles, automobile parts manufacturing and food and beverages had great potential for SMEs, Mr. Fajarazam, however, said that many people ignored these sectors by assuming that only big players had scope.
Flight service
During the interaction, representatives from Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry submitted a memorandum to Mr. Fajarazam urging him to initiate steps for the Malaysian low-cost airlines Air Asia to start direct flights from Madurai to Kuala Lumpur.
