The Consulate General office in Chennai for South India had coordinated a Program Mendampingi Rakyat Malaysia (PMRM) with all Malaysian families and students from Malaysia on 14 April 2013. Malaysians whom are residing on a long stay in India under the privilege of People of Indian Origin were also located and invited in conjunction with the celebration of Tamil New Year on 14 April 2014 with the spirit of 1Malaysia.
The PMRM program is a regular activity coordinated by the Consulate to outreach all Malaysians. The activity carried out by the Consulate under the PMRM program is an initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia to constantly outreach Malaysians abroad to regularly update on current issues of importance and developments in Malaysia. The Tamil New Year was found suitable to gather all Malaysians together as it was a public holiday and it is a widely celebrated occasion in Tamil Nadu.
The Consul General Chitra Devi Ramiah had addressed on current issues and developments in Malaysia, issues of importance concerning the wellbeing of all Malaysians residing in Chennai, the importance of Malaysian diaspora, the assurance of providing effective and efficient Consular services to all Malaysians by the Consulate and etc. All Malaysian were advised to update their contact details and profiles regularly to ensure that they will be contactable by the Consulate.
The event was graced by Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Kanagam, spouse of Y.Bhg. Dato' S. Palanivel, Minister for Environment. Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Kanagam also addressed the students and other guest and emphasised on carrying the Malaysian representation by good and exemplary behaviour by the students besides delivering her appreciation to the Consul General and the Consulate for extending an invitation during her brief visit to Chennai.
The lunch event was attended by 60 guests including Consulate officials and was held in a Malaysian owned hotel in Chennai known as Malaysia Inn Hotel. The event which was fully funded under the PMRM program was appreciated and supported cordially by all Malaysians whom looked forward to more frequent similar gatherings.
