The Consul General hosted a Reception on the occasion of the SPB Yang Di Pertuan Agong Birthday in Chennai on Sunday 7 June 2009

In conjunction of the SPB Yang Di Pertuan Agong Birthday this year, the Consul General hosted a reception for the Malaysian Community living in Chennai and South India at the AKDR Golf Village, Chennai on Sunday 7 June 2009. The event was held in the afternoon at 4.00 pm till 7.00 pm and was attended by 150 Malaysians including Home Based Staff, Businessmen and Students together with their families. During the event, the Consul General delivered a speech touching on various matters pertaining to the developments in Malaysia as well as about the Malaysian role while abroad.  In the speech, the Consul General highlighted about the latest developments on political, economy and security situations in Malaysia and as well as emphasized the importance of Malaysian Community living in harmony and to respect the local law and culture while working or studying abroad.

The Consul General also touched about the bilateral relation between Malaysia and India and the role of the Office of the Consulate General in dealing with matters. Besides that, the Consul General also took the opportunity to remind the Malaysians about the security situation in the country and to be alert at all times. He also urged the Malaysians that they should contact each other on regular basis and those who were not registered their names and family members to update the information with the Office of the Consulate General for reference and record.

The programme started with Doa', followed by the National Anthem, speech by the Consul General, group performance and lucky draw. The varieties of local food serving in hot plates and Malaysian sweets were served to the community. Even though the budget given was limited, however, everybody enjoyed the event which went off in a very warm and cheerful manner.
