Y.B. DATO’ SERI UTAMA S. SAMY VELLU CONFERRED AN HONORARY DOCTORAL DEGREE BY PERIYAR MANIAMMAI UNIVERSITY (PMU) ON 1 MARCH 2015
Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Utama S. Samy Vellu, Special Envoy (Ministerial Rank) to India and South Asia for Infrastructure, Malaysian Prime Minister’s Department, was conferred an honorary Doctoral Degree by Periyar Maniammai University in Trichy during the 22nd convocation on 1 March 2015.
Delivering the convocation address of the PMU, YB Dato’ Seri Utama S. Samy Vellu had mentioned that Periyar Maniammai University had contributed in ushering in social change by translating the ideals of the social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy Naicker into action by inculcating equality, fraternity and dignity among the students.
604 candidates were awarded degrees for undergraduate courses and 198 for postgraduate courses for the year 2013-14 at the convocation. In order to help students to be employed globally, the university offered them the opportunity to learn foreign languages such as Russian, Mandarin, and German.
