Conference on Regional Security, Tehran

Iran Expediency Council hosted a conference on regional security recently.  A handful of selected Ambassadors from the region, Europe and Asia and several Heads of U.N. Agencies in Tehran were invited.  The Sec. Gen. of the Council Mr. Mohsen Rezaie (Presidential Candidate 2013) offered his perspective on the status of the security in the Middle East.  Amb. Sadik shared his viewpoint on the peace and security in Southeast Asia which States owed much to its adherence to the cardinal principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states as stipulated in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC 1976).  He elaborated inter alia on the importance of keeping open the line of communication between leaders and senior officials, policy of constructive engagement as opposed to the isolationist policy, diplomatic and peaceful settlement of dispute, confidence building measures, cooperation as opposed to confrontational behavior.  He also stressed that the language of threat and intimidation virtually does not exist in ASEAN inter-state engagement.  Mr. Rezaie later hosted a dinner in honor of those present.
