NAM Tree of Peace and Friendship, Tehran, 5 March 2013

NAM HoMs in Tehran was invited to a tree planting event recently.  The event was graced by President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.  Also present were Iran’s NAM Secretary Mr. Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei. During his opening speech, President Ahmadinejad said the event signified Iran’s desire for solidarity and cooperation towards making the world a better place to live for all humanity.  Mr. Mashaei in his remark spoke about the spring of humanity in the light of the dawn of the winter season.  President Ahmadinejad graciously invited Amb. Sadik to join him in planting the symbolic sapling.  Later each of the NAM Ambassadors was asked to plant their respective tree in the NAM garden at the historical Sa’adabad complex which once housed the King of Iran. Iran currently holds the rotating Chair of NAM for three years beginning September 2012.
