Puan Jakkiah Basran, the wife of the Malaysian Ambassador to Iran hosted a monthly tea reception for the Professional Women’s Group (PWG) at the Residence recently. About 25 members of PWG attended the reception. This exclusive but loose social grouping is comprised of Iranian professional women ranging from university professors, medical doctors, lawyers, psychiatrists and famous painters and artists in Iran. The wives of Ambassadors of several countries were also in attendance. The reception was such an enriching experience for the attendees to socialise and establish their networkworking and exchange their professional experiences.As in the past practice of the PWG, Puan Jakkiah had invited a professor of anthropology from a well established university in Tehran as a guest speaker who spoke about the ethnic composition of Iran. The professor had previously lectured in Europe where she spoke mostly on social anthropology. Previous topics spoken by other guest speakers during such PWG tea receptions include Drugs, Marriage rights, Cognitive psychology & its implications in the teaching-learning process, etc. Giving charity is also an important activity of PWG. During this tea reception, Puan Jakkiah served Malaysian traditional delicacies with an interlude video presentation on Malaysia which was much to the delight of the attendees.
