The Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Y.B. Datuk Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar led a delegation of five (5) Members of Parliament to Iran beginning 22 until 26 January 2011. The working visit was at the invitation of the Deputy Speaker of the Majlis of Iran H.E. Seyed Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi Fard.
While in Iran, the Deputy Speaker held discussions with his Iranian counterpart H.E. Aboutorabi, H.E. Hamid Reza Haji Babaee, Iranian Education Minister, H.E. Ali Larijani, Speaker of Iranian Majlis and H.E. Dr. Ali-Akhbar Salehi, interim Foreign Minister. Y.B. Datuk Dr. Junaidi and the delegation also met with the Iran-Malaysia Parliamentary Friendship Group. The delegation also visited the Atomic Energy Iran Organisation (AEIO) and was briefed on Iran’s medical and pharmaceutical nuclear technology. H.E. Aboutorabi hosted the delegation to a dinner at the Parliament House. In all the meetings above, both sides expressed common desire towards strengthening bilateral political, economic and cultural ties. Both sides also place importance towards promoting greater exchange of visits at all levels especially the people representatives in both countries. Ambassador Sadik hosted the delegation to dinner at his residence.
