Registration of Death 
 

Report death at the nearest Police Station. 

Register death at the Malaysian Mission. A copy of the police report is required. Addresses  of Malaysian Missions are available in this website under the topic Malaysia's Missions Worldwide 

Other documents required for the registration are as follows :
    - Original Passport of the deceased
    - Original Identification Card / Birth Certificate of the deceased
    - Copy of the Death Certificate
    - Copy of the Embalming Certificate

Repatriation of Remains

Information and documents required are as follows :
- Name of the deceased
- Passport and Identification Card Number
- Address of the deceased abroad
- Address in Malaysia
- Occupation
- Cause of death
 
The Consular Division, with the assistance of the respective Malaysian Mission abroad will investigate the death. Relative/next of kin of the deceased will need to decide the place of burial, abroad or in Malaysia.

Burial in Malaysia

- The Consular Division, with the assistance of the respective Malaysian  
  Mission abroad will obtain the estimated cost of the repatriation which will
  have to deposited by the relative/next of kin to the Consular Division. A
  receipt will be issued. 

- The respective Mission will carry out the repatriation process 

- The Consular Division will notify the family on the flight details for the arrival
  of the remains.
 

Burial Abroad

- The Consular Division will instruct the respective Mission to coordinate the
  burial process.

- All cost incurred will have to be borned by the relative/next of kin which have
  to paid to the Consular Division. A receipt will be issued.

- The Consular the Division will submit the following documents to the relative /
  next of kin :

- Acknowledgment letter from the respective Mission
- Certificate of health
- Certificate of Death
- Certificate of Burial
- Death Report
- Copy of Passport / Identification Card (original document will be 
  submitted directly to the respective departments in Malaysia)

Report of Missing Persons

Relative/family/acquaintance report the missing person at the Consular Division, Ministry Affairs at the following address :

Among the information required for the report are as follows :

 - Complete name of person 
 - Place and date of birth
 - Details of the Malaysian Passport
 - Identification Card number
 - Date departed from Malaysia
 - Date of arrival at the particular country
 - Complete address and telephone number at the particular ( if available) 
 - Last known address of the place of work (if available)
 - Name and address of family to be contacted in Malaysia
 - Name, address and telephone number of the person making the report / government 
    agency involved 
 - Reason for going abroad 
 
The Consular Division will seek assistance from the respective Malaysian Mission to investigate the case. The family will be informed of the result of the investigation.

If found, the family will have to bear the cost of bringing the person home (flight ticket & other costs incurred). The money need to be deposited to the Consular Division and a receipt will be issued. 

The family will be informed of the details of arrival. The family will have to wait to receive the person at the airport or other entry points in Malaysia.

Arrest/Detention by Local Authorities

Relative/family/acquaintance make a written report about the arrested/detained person at the Consular Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the following address :

 Among the information required for the report are as follows :

  - Name of the arrested/detained person
  - Passport and Identification Card number
  - Date and place of arrest/detained
  - Telephone number of place of arrest/detained
  - Cause of arrest/detention
 

The Consular Division will seek assistance from the respective Malaysian Mission to investigate. The family will be notified of result of the investigation. 

 If the family requires legal assistance or need to visit the arrested/detained person, the application need to be submitted to the Consular Division. All cost incurred will be borned by the family. 

After completion of sentence (if found guilty), the person will be deported back to Malaysia. In some countries, cost of deportation will be borned by the country concerned. In others, the family need to bear the cost :

-  Deposit the required amount to the Consular Division. A receipt will be 
    issued.
 
-  The family will be informed of the details of arrival. The family will have to
   wait to receive the person at the airport or other entry points in Malaysia.

Registration of Absent Voters

Registration of voters for Malaysians abroad is divided into 2 categories: 
   
      Postal Voters / Absent Voters consists of :
     
            i)   Arm Forces who are in service  
           ii)   Spouses to (i)
           iii)  Government personnel (Federal Government, States Service or Local
                 Authorities) who are in service abroad 
           iv)  Spouses to (iii)
            v)  Individuals studying full time in Universities, Technical Colleges, Training
                 Institutions or other bodies abroad (only if they are sponsored by the
                 Government)
           vi) Spouses to (v). 
  
Normal Voters 
  Malaysian other than the above 

 Malaysian Missions abroad will make the announcement for the registration and checking 
 of the voting list. 

 Registration can be made at the nearest Malaysian Mission office by filling in a form

 Among documents required for the registration are :

 - Identification document that confirms the applicant's citizenship
 - Identification Card 
 - Passport 
 - 3 passport size photograph  
 

For the election, normal voters need to return to Malaysia to cast their votes based on the area they have registered in. For postal voters, casting of votes are made by post.

Notarial Functions

  Among the documents requited for the process are :
     - Identification Card 
      - 2 passport size photographs 
     - Documents issued by Government agencies to be certified
      - Declaration 

  Service charge is RM20.00 

Authentication/Attestation of documents.

Documents originating from Malaysia such as Statutory Declarations, Certificates of Origin, Power of Attorney etc. require authentication by the Consular Division before submission to the various foreign missions for further endorsements. Under normal circumstances documents submitted for authentication could be collected on the same day, latest the following working day.
