Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Cambodia Jointly Officiate Masjid Ar-Rahman and new Madrasah Al-Muwafaqah

Dato’ Adnan Haji Othman, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Cambodia on Saturday 2 August 2008 jointly officiated Masjid Ar-Rahman and Madrasah Al-Muwafaqah in Kampong Phum Lo, Srok Stung Trong, Kampong Cham Province.

Kampong Phum Lo is located 179 kilometers from Phnom Penh city. Masjid Ar-Rahman is located at kilometer 7 of Kampong Phum Lo and Madrasah Al-Muwafaqah at kilometer 3.

H.E. Lann Chhan, Deputy Governor of Kampong Cham Province represented the Governor of Kampong Cham Province H.E. Hun Neng. Also present at the ceremony was H.E. Gong Chim, representative of H.E. Samdech Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly. Several officers of the Malaysian Embassy and members from the Cambodian Islamic Welfare Association in Cambodia and from Malaysia were also present.

The nearly completed Masjid Ar-Rahman and Madrasah Al-Muwafaqah were built from funds donated by Malaysians through the Cambodian Islamic Welfare Association, Cambodia headed by Ustaz Hassan Basri and Cambodian Islamic Welfare Association, Malaysia headed by Haji Amin Hashim.

In his brief speech, Dato’ Adnan told the committee members of Masjid Ar-Rahman and Kampong Phum Lo villagers, that with the new mosque they have now more opportunities to organize activities and programs that would benefit the villagers, especially with the month of Ramadhan coming in one month’s time.

Dato’ Adnan also advised the students in Madrasah Al-Muwafaqah to take full advantage of the new Madrasah to learn more about Islam and to highly value the Al-Quran given one each to every one of them to improve their reading and understanding.

Dato’ Adnan then led members of the Cambodian Islamic Welfare Association, Malaysia to hand out Al-Quran, rice, water pump, PA System and speakers, used clothings to the villagers and students.

Kampong Phom Lo has some 500 Muslim families with an estimated 1,500 persons.
