On 16 June 2023, H.E. Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim attended the MoU signing ceremony on landmine free villages between Wing Bank, Malaysian Business Chamber Cambodia (MBCC), and Khmer Times at the Wing Bank office, Phnom Penh. This collaboration will allow anyone to deposit an amount as little as 4000 riels, to help in funding the demining work carried out by the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA). The event was graced by First Vice President of CMAA, H.E. Senior Minister Ly Thuch, who have touched everyone present with the story about a young deminer who died in vain in fighting for the elimination of land mines in Cambodia. To date, there are 33 countries in the world with active land mines and Cambodia ranked third with 30% composition behind Iraq and Afghanistan. In Cambodia, there are 363 square kilometers of land mines that has yet to be cleared and in the past, it has taken away 200 lives of deminers, amputated farmers and of course, the remnants of wars. In essence, the Embassy will continue to provide its full support to all parties in their efforts to eliminate landmines and explosive ordnance in order to raise awareness people from every walk of life. Therefore, the Embassy of Malaysia call upon all concerned citizens of the world especially Malaysians residing in Cambodia, to donate to this noble cause, which will help the Cambodians to move freely without fear in areas once housed conflicts and war. The proceeds will enable Cambodia to invest in technological equipment in clearing the mines, capacity building programs and advocate policies of mine clearance to ensure that Cambodia will be mine-free by 2030. Congratulations Wing Bank, Malaysian Business Chamber Cambodia (MBCC), and Khmer Times and CMAA on the noble effort. The QR code to donate is per photo shared below.
