Mr Lee Don-koo, Korea Forest Service Minister, hosted a luncheon for ASEAN diplomats on 25 November 2011 at Lotte Hotel, Seoul as part of a briefing session on the Agreement between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea on the Agreement on Forest Cooperation and the establishment of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organisation (AfoCO), to be based in Seoul by 2013. The Minister assured ASEAN diplomats of Korea’s commitment to the realization of the new organization.

Korea had proposed the establishment of AFoCO in 2009 to facilitate forest cooperation and prevent deforestation and forest degradation in Asia so that the continent could better deal with climate change as well as foster talented individuals in the field.

During the briefing session, Korea Forest Service and the ASEAN diplomats discussed details on the set up of the multinational agency over the next two years
