COFFEE BRIEFING: THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE CONSTITUTION AND THE LAW ON SOUTH KOREA’S IMPEACHMENT

On 11 December 2024, a special Coffee Briefing Session was organised by Seoul Foreign Correspondents’ Club (SFCC) for its members where such an avenue was used to enlighten the audience with the intricacies of the ongoing political development from legal and constitution perspective. It was attended by approximately 50 participants largely reporters from local and international outlets. The Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Malaysia also participated in the discussion.

Two renowned scholars, namely, Prof Choi Bong-kyung and Prof Lim Ji-bong from Seoul National University and Sogang University respectively shared their views on the topic and answered various questions from the audience. Essentially, both scholars enlightened the audience on the issues of impeachment, insurrection and treason which made a headline following the declaration of martial law about a week ago which fortunately was lifted barely six hours after it was declared.
